"Creation", Starring Paul Bettany (Silas the monk in Da Vinci Code) as Darwin takes a complex look at the man's life as he went about formulating his theory. The film tends to hinge around relationships with his Daughter Annie, who died tragically, and his wife Emma. The film leaps back and forth in time frame and, as far as I recall, skips a lot of time sequence for the sake of the drama. for instance, early on darwin gets a letter from Alfred Russel Wallace and in real life, this forced the hand of Darwins friends to present a joint paper too the Linnean Society. But the film has Darwin completing his main work some years afterwards (the paper presented to the Linnean was an abstract but the time frame between the two seems way out) This will be for those who have taken an interest in the man; one gets only glimpses of his work and thoughts. It is not going to be a work that will make a creationist think twice about their ideas. |
