OK... so who here has read Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk? Thoughts? Opinions? Bueller? I saw the film first, years ago; good movie, gripping movie, though the ending never did settle fully with me. I just got around to reading the book... and I liked it. I like the prose, the jumping around. It kept me on my toes. I've been reading a lot of Dickens and Stephen King (Under the Dome kicked ass!) lately, so it was a refreshing change. And the whole idea of a "fight club" to deal with societal ills, a sort of exhaustive therapy session, was a pretty brilliant idea. Definitely interesting. Borrows a bit from Freud, imo. The whole thing has Gen-Xer written all over it. Edit: Since we're talking about Fight Club, why not enjoy some of The Pixies? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zP1IjgSO_E Edited by Bonzolee, Dec 1 2009, 02:44 AM.

Nobody? So, I'm guessing nobody wants to discuss the many ways in which "Fight Club" recycles the ideas present in the Algerian Revolution, then? You know, Frantz Fanon and Jean-Paul Sartre? ... No? |

Sorry, been running around. Never read the book. Just saw the film--excellent for sure, with great symbolism and irreverently displayed wit. |

| I haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie. It was years ago, though. I remember liking the movie, thinking the ending was OK the first time. I later saw it again and liked the ending more. Now I can't remember the details well enough to tell you why. |

| I'm sorry. I am very shallow. if I watch a movie I either enjoy it or I dont; I don't want to analyse the shit out of it. |

I agree... most of the time. Most of the time, there's really nothing to analyze, as a lot of the times the main focus is either on creating a pervasive mood or just presenting a story. Case in point: If you didn't laugh during the comedy, you probably think it sucks, and if you found a ton of obvious plot holes in the mob film, then your opinion of the film probably isn't that high. It's all surface stuff, and doesn't really require you to go all Sherlock Holmes. There's no mystery to solve. Every so often, however, there's a film that presents some interesting ideas, and those films are worth analyzing, imo. Edited to add: What I'm trying to say, I guess, it that some films are meant to be analyzed– and analysis adds to the enjoyment of those films. Edited by Bonzolee, Dec 13 2009, 04:32 AM.
