So let me take you through my day: – I wake up and go into work. As usual, it's boring; it's so easy, it's hard. I work all day, develop a "migraine from hell", and come home. I'm exhausted, but the migraine medication, as usual, succeeds in not only taking away the pain, but in making me hyper. – A little before 11pm, I settle in for some TV viewing. It's been a long day, and I've been waiting all day for the new season of Dexter. I haven't really gotten to relax in a while. The day may have sucked; but the fun night of TV is going to end things on a high note. – I turn on my TV... and the cable starts skipping like a CD that's been scratched to hell. The picture blinks in and out, freezing and stuttering; the sound is nothing but a bunch of jumpy, incoherent noise; to complete the package of failure, no digital features work correctly. I can't even get basic cable running, forget about Showtime and HBO. – As luck would (or, as it turns out, wouldn't) have it, the one small, old TV we have, the one TV in the house with no digital cable box, works flawlessly. This doesn't help me one bit, as the three shows I've been waiting to watch all day – Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, and the season premier of Dexter – are all on HBO and Showtime; and the only way to view those is through a digital cable box. – I can't watch Entourage (damn it!), I can't watch Curb Your Enthusiasm (shit!), and I can't watch the season premier of Dexter (fuck!). And, after wasting my time on a help line for 20 minutes (which did nothing), I now have to stay in all Tuesday afternoon and wait for the cable guy to show up and fix the problem. I've had to cancel my afternoon plans for the day. My roommates aren't exactly dependable (except for the one who works constantly, and he has an over hour trip there and back), so I'm sorta stuck with fixing this. – This all means – because of my busy schedule – that the earliest I'll be able to catch up on these shows is next weekend. I've put aside over two hours of time tonight to watch this shit, and now I have nothing to do. Damn; today has sucked. To top it all off, I've had some other issues the past week... but that's an entirely different story. |

Now my phones (also through cable company) are losing and regaining service periodically. My internet just completely shut down for an hour. On top of that, it's....running.........so.............slow. Ugh. Really, my gripe with the phone issue is that it is indicative of a higher problem; I really couldn't care less about the damn phones. But I'm sure you all already knew that. |

Renounce TV - it will be great. Lots more time for the www. Hang on. Is that working? Oh well, just a thought. Edited by Perry, Sep 29 2009, 02:39 AM.

Well, I've got my cable all fixed up, but there's still work to contend with. And really, that's the problem that never leaves. To paraphrase Chris Rock: I need to find a career. I'm working on that. Until that day comes, I'm stuck doing work that promotes the playing of the "time game"; you know, where you look at the clock every so often, hoping that your shift is about through. You know... screw all this negativity! I'm about to watch "Phantasm", my first horror film of the month, online for free. Tomorrow, I get to catch up on my shows. This is all awesome. |

Bonzo, I think I understand. Confucious say: man who watch clock bound to stay one of hands and take a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life. |

And now I'm sick. Last year I got sick the freakin' day of the election! This year I'm starting out a bit earlier. So, I started to feel weird... more tired than usual, more headaches than usual, and a barely noticeable scratchy throat. Went to the doc's on Wednesday, got medicine to treat a bacterial infection, and things sounded fine. Fast forward to now... minor chest pains, there's some pain when I swallow, and my throat generally feels sore, especially on the left side. Anyone know if this is normal? If it continues getting worse, I'm going to have to get another appointment. I'll give it 'till Thursday. Hopefully it improves. I do have a gig Tuesday night, and I'd much rather play healthy than sick, but it looks like I might have to prepare for the latter. And really, what's going to kill me is hauling around the equipment; the playing in and of itself shouldn't be too uncomfortable. |

How old are you now, Bonz? :-) I've been actually healthier this year than expected. I'm at work on a busy night hammering out some posts and replying to emails. Can't wait to be off in one hour and 52 minutes time. I share your pain (if not physical pain, then cinematic pain). I can't dedicate full time to movies, which does suck. |

Hhhmmm, doesn't sound at all nice. No cough to go with it, I presume, as you haven't mentioned it? Watcha been eating? Anything that might give you more than a belly ache - like food poisoning? Been drinking the water where you shouldn't? Long distance diagnosis is not my strongpoint. Best of luck. The quacks are usually half right, half of the time. |

So, I still have no idea what I had. All I know is, I suddenly started improving on Tuesday. Of course, I didn't go back to see the doc, but I still highly doubt the medication he gave me worked. Usually, I don't become 30 times sicker days AFTER I start taking medicine! I jogged a bit once I started to get more energy, and I adopted a very strict diet consisting of good, healthy foods (really, I just intensified my healthy focus a bit, weeded out some of the junk). I was able to wait this one out; I even felt decent for the gig on Tuesday! Still not 100%, but I'm feeling much better. I feel like shit in the middle of the afternoon, though– around a half hour after I take the medication! It knocks me positively dizzy for a few hours. Luckily, tomorrow is the final pill (and I'm finishing it just in case). Hope things are looking up for you too, Gemmy! |

Well, this particular antibiotic didn't work on my particular illness one bit as far as I can tell. Also, the side effects of this medication all sucked. Can you say zombify? |

Now to bring this thread back to its roots: It fucking happened again! The cable problems aren't nearly as bad as last time, but it's rendered all premium channels unwatchable, as well as all On Demand content. I expect it to be fixed by tomorrow, but... damn. I missed Dexter and Curb and am going to have to wait until next Saturday to watch them. That wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that I've got hours upon hours of Fall programming to catch up on as well. Fuck Comcast. If they continue with this bullshit, we'll probably get another provider. Thing is, none of us know what type of bill or options we are looking at, but if this happens again, we're going to find out. The worst part about this all is that it has nothing to do with our connections or cable boxes. The entire area gets hit by it! Calling them up for support is a futile act. |
