Hey all! I am currently a student at the University of Arizona studying Mathematics, Physics, and Philosophy. It was virtually necessary for me to add the Philosophy part to my degree plan since I don't think there's a day that I don't go without philosophizing, and I figured that I ought to at least get some credit for it, lol. I'm an atheist, though not blindly so, and I frequently play the devil's (or should I say, angel's) advocate on issues concerning religion when I discuss with other atheists. I've read quite a few of the major contemporary theistic texts and try to stay up to date with the academic journals on the topic (and I don't much like the writings of Dawkins et al.) Because of this, however, the Mormons and the evangelicals down here don't like to talk to me anymore because they get frustrated with my questions. It was this desire to see things from the other side of the coin which ultimately lead me to my rejection of faith and acceptance of the world as it is. I'll save the story, but it wasn't an easy process, and I went searching through several different faith systems after Christianity before I realized what was wrong with all of them. I consider myself in continual pursuit of the truth, willing to accept it whatever it may be. I tend to follow DC pretty closely, though I enjoy following exapologist as well as those on The Prosblogion. I also have my own blog and have had an entry of mine featured on DC at one point a while back. When I'm not in class or philosophizing, I revert to my computer geek self and write little programs, learn new computer languages, and play some games from time to time. I'm also a huge chess nerd, and not just International chess. I play Xiangqi and Shogi as well, and have a few other variants lying around somewhere. Though I haven't, and probably won't, post as often as I would like to, I hope that I can contribute to the independent and intelligent discussion on this forum. |

"The scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, and he delights in it because it is beautiful. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, and if nature were not worth knowing, life would not be worth living." - Henri Poincaré. | |

Wow! Is izzytjkcmd CLI stuff? What program does it invoke? Windoze or some Linux variant? Philosophy is quite a vexing subject. I thought I liked it, once. Not so sure, any more. Too few pearls, too many pigs. Something like that, anyway. ![]() Pull up a keyboard and let it all hang out. But hold it up; it's hard for Hux and me to sea, from an ocean away. |
