Was The Election Rigged?

In Iran. Do you think it was rigged?

Now, there could be sound explanations for some of this stuff, but based upon the results and overall mood of different areas in Iran, I'm leaning toward the idea that the election was in fact, rigged. At the moment, anyway. I may change my mind depending on what comes out. I'd believe these results a lot more if they didn't seem like they came from another dimension.

I mean, I've seen some pretty weird shit before in election results and polling in both the United States and England, but what happened in Iran is a bigger ass whooping than Reagan gave Mondale. With the "The Green Tsunami" and the massive turnout? It looks like an obvious, blatant, arrogant rig. On the level of taunting, really.

Just sayin'.

Really, I do think it's possible that this is not a rig, but I'm (at least for now) favoring the idea that is is a rig. We'll have to wait until all the data and trends get dissected before any real conclusion is made.

If it wasn't rigged... wow. Somebody screwed up the calculations something fierce. Like I said, I've seen something like this happen before in both the U.S. and England*, but nothing on this scale.

* By that, I simply mean that calculations were wrong and what the media was painting as reality turned out to be complete, total fiction. After dissecting the data, the election results made sense. In fact, such adapting from said data led to the Clinton and Blair wins.

All elections are rigged, Bonzo -
it's only the degree that varies.

Are you referring to full out cheating or something more like "The Engineering of Consent"?

Because I really don't have a problem in particular with the latter. Kind of agree with it, actually. The idea, not the way it's always used. Kind of proves itself, doesn't it?

Speaking widely and metaphorically. You know the old saw:
how do you know if a politician's lying? Moving lips.

I do give a few the benefit of the doubt, but they're all gold-
plated trough quaffers. One or two resign in disgust; but
the glitter of a gold-plated pension and all the perks of the
position usually gets to 99.9% of them. So they bury their
conscience and rationalise it with the childish: but they're
doing it?!

So, anyone else following this? You can go on Twitter and various other sites and actually get news straight from the Iranian people themselves, pictures too. I've been sitting here, still nursing my ankle, and checking up on what's happening throughout the day. It's interesting as hell.

Also, I've looked at a variety of arguments, and I've looked at the available evidence, and I am quite convinced that the entire election was rigged. Beyond a shadow of a doubt. I don't know who would have won if it was truly legitimate but these numbers are absolute bullshit.

Hopefully, the "Green Tsunami" can stay strong, persevere, and follow this all through to the end (which will hopefully be peaceful). We might actually get to the bottom of this if they continue to keep up the pressure like they are.

No one's been keeping up with this? This whole scene is amazing, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see some good changes out of Iran because of it. The reformers mean business, and now they've been backed by some pretty powerful people. I have no idea what's going to happen, but there's a lot of potential in this.

Anyone been watching any of the videos of the protests? Amazing.

I heard an American commentator the other day. He said in the States they have 'wired in towns' to deliver fast election results but the iranian was beyond the pail. FFS, Aminerdinnerjacket claimed 62% of the national vote within 2 hours! That's better going than kremlin democracy!

Have been watching FOX news coverage on this one but I must say, its difficult to tell if they are overstating events in Iran by being the only channel (that I can get) giving virtual 24 hour coverage. Is this a truly historic moment or an internal squabble that is getting to some kind of tipping point?

I think it definitely could wind up leading to a historical moment, but it may take years to get to. Then again, we may have entirely different ideas as to what constitutes a historical moment.

There is definitely a shift going on in Iran, and while I do think they will eventually make a big move, I have no idea when they will act. Right now, I have no idea what's really happening on the ground as the Iranian government has clamped down on any opposition. All I know is that there are some things happening behind the scenes among the ruling clerics, and there have been arrests made as a warning.

This is just going to fuel the opposition, as are the deaths (which, according to known data, have actually been quite low thus far).

It seems as if the stage is being set for some kind of a showdown (though, I do highly doubt that this will lead to a completely new Iran anytime soon).
