Your rantings aren't that palpable when they are played back for you are they? You are so eloquent when ranting against any and virtually all theists. You can say - and you've said as much directly to me - just about anything you want, in any vile way you please, with boundless disrespect for any humanity or divinity. You demean a person's ability to think simply on the basis that they do not accept your version of reality. You scoff at history and logic. But, when someone puts your own inescapable conclusions (the absurdity of all of existence) back in your face, you run like a bruised 3rd grader and cry "foul."

I think you are very wise to get back on the porch (by bowing out or ignoring me). If you can't hunt with the big dogs, you never should have ventured off anyway.

I for one, am not sickened by your hypocrisy. I'm amused by it. You insist that all of existence is absurd and meaningless. But, when someone acts as if it really is, you get offended.

And you want to make up rules for civility? Let's practice a little of what you preach. The 51% majority (meaning those with the guns or their hands on the website's on/off switch) set the rules. There is NO basis to any rule you want to make. None. Zip. Nada. Only force. Only power. And you hope to make all the rules.

That's the depth of hypocrisy and self-righteousness.

Send me your published work on how respectful you were of Jerry Falwell and his family (and you should know that I'm no fan of Falwell) when he died and your condemnation of Christopher Hitchens' (one of your patron "saints") unabashed and vile disregard for any sense of decency in his declaration of glee at the time of Falwell's passing. Send it to me and I might apologize for hurting your poor little sensibilities. Otherwise, stay on the porch.

I noticed that Dweezil bowed out without answering questions . . . nothing matters. This is getting to be a pattern my friendly atheist acquaintances. If and when you don't like the premise, if and when you cannot answer the questions, if and when you realize how devastating such questions are to your worldview, you simply ignore and move on . . . oh yes, and you accuse the questioner of ignoring you.

Noel, I disagree with you, and you disagree with me. So, what's the point of continuing the "debate"? All it's going to do is frustrate me. Not because I can't answer your questions, but because any answer I give you is going to be picked apart unless it's the precise answer you are seeking. Life's too short to get frustrated with a person on the internet I don't even know. Think what you want to think. Pat yourself on the back "big dog"...you should be oh so proud. :flogdeadhorse:

...and for the record, I stand by my "rantings" 100%. The only person who seems to have a problem with them is you. I'm not crying fowl, or running away. I simply fail to see any value in continuing the discussion with you any further.

Is that a real poncho, or a Sears poncho?

Absolutely Dweezer. It just gets very annoying. But the thing is; he wont be the last to imagine he has come up with anything unique.

Hmmm...interesting topic, and one which hasn't been commented upon in many months, but do you think that will stop me from weighing in? HA....NEVER!

Having said that... I'd rather not get into the back-and-forth finger pointing and accusations, but I am interested in the idea that there are politicians in the United States who may be atheists and who are living in the "closet." I honestly don't believe that we have a current senator who is an atheist and, if we do, he or she is certainly NOT admitting it. I agree with what has been said, that "coming out" would be "political suicide" at this time in our nation's history. And yet I do believe we are making head-way and that it is not only possible that we will have more atheist members of congress in the future, but that there may be, in fact, some "subversive" atheists in the senate. I just don't think that information is available right now.

As of this date, I know of only ONE congressman who has openly admitted his atheism. He is congressman Pete Starky from California, and even he has a Unitarian background. However, he HAS had the courage to come forward as an atheist. That information can be found here:

The Harvard Law record

here:

The Volokh Conspiracy

and a more recent website here:

Current

Hopefully, as far as I'm concerned, there will be more politicians who will follow in Starky's footsteps. He is definitely a "ground breaker," but at 73 he's getting pretty old. having said that and with the results of our recent elections, I think the environment may be ripe for future atheists, free-thinkers and agnostics to make there way into political positions. Let's hope so, and let's work to make it happen in our own states.
