I read a few years and years ago. Not one much for the horror genre in books but they had a kind of gothic feel to them. I do remember the one of a man locked in a crypt so to get out he piled up coffins to climb out of the space above the doors. The coffin collapsed and his feet went through. Then he felt something gnawing at his ankles..........................

The only Lovecraft I've read was a short story in a book I have called "The Oxford Book of Gothic Tales"...weird stuff, but I like that genre of writing.

Lovecraft was a damn good writer, all things considered. He could explain things beautifully without having to pack in a bunch of extra words. Simple and to the point, yet filled with a rich goodness. His use of imagery was excellent, to say the least.
